HOW TO CONNECT TO THE CORE3 TEST SERVER
FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY TO ENSURE THAT SWGEMU WILL OPEN CORRECTLY!
USERS WITH A WORKING INSTALL OF SWG MAY SCROLL DOWN TO THE SECTION MARKED "FOR USERS WITH A WORKING INSTALL OF SWG".
FOR USERS WITHOUT A WORKING INSTALL OF SWG (Patched through Publish 13):
Step 1: Install Star Wars Galaxies with the original game discs.
Step 2: Follow the steps listed in the section below titled "For Users With A Working Install of SWG". When you reach steps 8 and 9, you may be missing some patch files depending on when you bought your installation CD's used in step 1. Follow the instructions there, you should be fine.
FOR USERS WITH A WORKING INSTALL OF SWG (Patched through Publish 13):
Step 1: Download WinRAR trial (This will be needed to open the Emu Installer) here: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar362.exe -Open it to install WinRAR.
Step 2: Download the Swgemu Installer at http://swgemu.com/swgemu/downloads/InstallSWGEmu.zip . You will need to have at least .NET framework 2.0 to run it, so ensure that Windows is up-to-date.
Step 3: Install the SWGEmu files by extracting the zip file INSIDE your SWG DIRECTORY (C:\Program Files\Starwars Galaxies by default) and running "SWGEmu_Installer". It will look something like this:
Set the download to install into your SWG Directory, wherever that may be.
Make sure that the settings are set at "Prompt..." on both options. If you already have the patch files up to date DO NOT CLICK 'YES' to re-download when prompted, because cancelling the download after clicking 'yes' will lead to incomplete and corrupted patch files.
Step 5: If you still play SOE's version of Star Wars Galaxies or patched your game up-to-date with SOE's launchpad, you will need to follow this step. If you do/have not, skip this step.
In a recent publish, SOE changed many of the DLL files used to play SWG from their original versions. SWGEmu is unplayable with these new changes. To correct this, download the DLL pack here: swgemu_dllpackage.zip After downloading and extracting the DLL files, copy them into your Star Wars Galaxies directory. If prompted to replace existing files, click 'yes to all'.
Step 6: Go into the Star Wars Galaxies Directory. Right click the SWGEmu.exe file, click "Send To.." and then "Desktop (Create Shortcut)". The SWGEmu.exe file is shown below.
Step 7: Right click the newly created shortcut on the desktop, go to 'Properties' and delete the text in the "target" field.
Now in the blank target field put the following text into that box (Do not leave out the ").
"C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies\SWGEmu.exe" -- -s Station subscriptionFeatures=1 gameFeatures=255
Two Things to Remember:
1. It is case-sensitive! If so much as one letter or capitalization is off, SWGEmu will not run!
2. If C:\\Program Files\\StarWarsGalaxies is not where you have SWGEmu installed, remember to change the wording to the correct location!
After you have entered the new target information, click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.
Step 8: Download and install the File Checker here: http://swgemu.com/file_checker.zip
Once downloaded, extract the files and open the .exe file named "File".
Follow the program's instructions to check for files needed.
NOTE: .toc Files are not needed for SWGEmu, as confirmed by Ramsey.
Step 9: If you are missing or have corrupted files, follow this step. If you do not, move on the the section marked "For Users With a Working Install of SWG" and follow the steps therein.
Use your file checker log as a guide, and download each file that you are missing. This may take a little while, as the files can be quite big.
When you are finished, move on to step 10.
Step 10: Go to your SWGEmu directory again. Locate a file named "swgemu_login.cfg". Open it in notepad. In this file you will need to go to the last line and edit the IP address/Web Address at the end of the text line
with whatever one the server you registered to provided you with. In this case, it will be the SWGEmu Core3 Test server. (NOTE: The info in the picture below is not the actual server address and port)
In order to find out the SWGEmu Test Server IP and Port, please log on to SWGEmu's IRC chat, type /join #test and look in the TOPIC. It will tell you the server status and the IP / PORT of Test Center.
If you are unfamiliar with SWGEmu IRC, follow the guide provided at the URL below. When you have installed found the IP and Port, return to this guide and continue following the steps. Guide: http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2467
Once you have entered the IP address/web address and port correctly SAVE the file and exit it.
Step 11: Now you are ready to run the SWG Emulator, just double click the shortcut and the game will start up and bring you to a login screen.
NOTE: If SWGEmu fails to start, creates a black screen but never really opens, or does anything other than bring you to a login screen, scroll down to the "COMMON PROBLEMS" section and follow the instructions there!
Step 12: BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO LOG IN, CHECK IRC (channel #test) FOR SERVER STATUS (UP/DOWN)! If it is down, you will not be able to proceed any further until it is up. If you have made it to the login screen, the chances of encountering a problem are VERY slight. Read ahead anyway so you will be prepared for when the server is up.
Once SWGEmu is open to a login screen, enter any username and password to log in, it will auto-create an account for you.
Step 13: Create a character as usual, and Log in to SWGEmu!! Make sure to test whatever it is that the SWGEmu developers want tested. Congratulations on a successful installation! Enjoy
